Welcome to Daring the Domestic! My name is Cameron and as I navigate my 20s I’m also trying to feel my way through all things domestic and self-sufficient. Since its way harder to just throw in the towel on all of our modern conveniences I’m attempting to work toward a more sustainable world through my everyday actions bit by bit. My journey started about 5 years ago working in a garden and cooking and has gradually progressed. Now I’ve got my own garden plans, recently brought home four laying hens, and will hopefully catch myself a swarm of bees this spring! I also want to include other aspects of being domestic like sewing, preserving foods, and whatever else catches my fancy! And there is still so much more to learn! This blog is an attempt to document all that learnin’, connect with others doing the same, and maybe even inspire someone to start their own garden (the first step to a more sustainable community!)
I am a graduate student in Appalachian Studies concentrating in Sustainable Development (hence my vision for sustainability through stability, integrity and beauty!). I live in the rich, wise and beautiful mountains of North Carolina in a renovated barn of all things. I’m most interested in sustainable agriculture and localizing food systems. Feel free to ask questions about any or all that. My mind is usually overloaded and brimming with information from all my reading and papers as a grad student.
P.S. I love to bake most of all, mainly so I can lick the batter out of the bowl and off the beaters!
Cameron … great blog.
will get back to you after i have read more. keep it up !!
